25 Week Bumpdate

We are growing more and more in love with this sweet boy every week!  We are still so in awe of this amazing miracle and beyond thankful that God has blessed us with the gift of life.  It is so unreal and incredibly exciting to think about the fact that He is forming a completely unique person with greater plans for him than we could ever imagine!

Our Baby:
  • He is 13.5 inches from head to toe (wow!) and he weighs 1.5 pounds!
  • He is starting to gain baby fat - I just can't wait to kiss some chubby baby cheeks!
  • His hair is growing more and more, and it already has a certain color and texture!  So amazing!

Best Parts of this Week:
  • Since we had to cancel our camping trip, we took advantage of the weekend to register for the baby! Slightly overwhelming, but also super exciting!  We still have to go through it and figure out what we're missing and what we should change.  Any suggestions on bottles? We completely skipped over registering for them because there was an entire wall filled with bottles of all shapes and sizes and brands, and we just didn't have a clue on where to begin!

  • My mom, sister, and I went to pick out fabric for the quilt my mom is going to make for the baby!  After taking, oh forever, to make some decisions, I finally settled on my classic favorites! If you couldn't tell by our wedding and my blog, I just love light blue and gray together!  We threw in some navy to make it pop, and I am so excited about it!  My mom is beyond talented, and I know this is going to be a gorgeous quilt!   This is one lucky baby! :)
  • Hearing his heartbeat again at the check-up appointment - just like feeling his movements, it really never gets old. And it never ceases to fill me with wonder and awe!

Symptoms: Since this week was my break between my two rotations, I didn't have any passing out issues since I wasn't on my feet all day every day! Yay! We'll see it goes with the week ahead...

Cravings:  My midwife told me to be careful about sugars, carbohydrates, and juice, which would be great except for the fact that it's everything I'm craving right now - chocolate, bagels, and orange/grapefruit juice!

I added a 24 week photo, although it's more like 24.5 weeks!

  2. I recommend waiting to meet the little guy to choose a bottle. Our boys preferred different ones. I think the Dr Brown ones were great for #2 because he went between nursing and bottles. But those tilted ones worked better for #1 who had expressed breast milk only no nursing.

  3. The quilt looks like it's going to be really pretty! I didn't really use bottles till my kids started drinking juice. I would just nurse all the time, but when we did use bottles all my kids have liked Nuk. Everytime I try another brand they would throw it down, but I'm sure all kids are different...it's just what they prefer.

  5. Do you plan to breastfeed? If so I'd recomnend getting a bottle that has a nipple that simulates breastfeeding (we did this and ours is made by Medela). Otherwise you run the risk of the baby getting lazy and preferring the bottle to you. But if you get bottles that function like breastfeeding the baby will still do the same sucking on the bottle and it will probably be easier to switch between that and nursing. Of course if you only plan to bottle feed then everything I said is moot. :)

  8. Our lactation consultant recommended the Medala bottles for our twins. We used those in the beginning and later switched to Dr. Brown, which are also good if you intend to breastfeed.

  10. Oh that quilt is going to be so amazing! I can't wait til you show it to us finished! Congrats on being almost done... you must be so relieved! The registering is overwhelming, isn't it? Good for you to stop and go back another time. I bought all kinds of bottles when I was pregnant with Abigail planning of bottle feeding her but then nursing just went to well in the first few days I stuck with that... don't think I ever opened up a bottle. Maybe just get one or two that seems good to you instead of buying a whole set. That way you can see what you like with your baby boy and go back to get more as you need them? You'll figure it all out... don't worry. Eat the ice cream and enjoy this very special time. ~tara
