All Things Work Together for Good

Three Bible verses have been constantly popping up for me over the past couple weeks.   From seeing them on church signs and on Pinterest, hearing them repeatedly in songs on the way to work (such athis onethis one, and this one), and one of them being the scripture memory verse of the week on the radio, I keep hearing them over and over again.  These are the verses:

"We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose."
-Romans 8:28

"What then shall we say to this?  If God is for us, who can be against us?"
- Romans 8:31

"For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor present things, nor future things, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
-Romans 8:38
Romans 8:38-39

I pulled out my Bible a few nights ago before bed and couldn't decide what to read, so I randomly flipped through and stuck my finger in a page (I know, I know...not the best way to go about it), and happened to flip to Romans chapter 8.  I couldn't help but laugh and tear up when I read those three verses on the page.   I also loved reading this verse:

"He who did not spare his own Son but handed him over for us all, how will he not also give us everything else along with him? "
-Romans 8:32

While I have been praying persistently about something going on in my life right now, I have spent a lot more time worrying and stressing about it than trusting in God and his plan.

Reading through Romans offered me such encouragement, (as I knew it was a direct message from God) to stop being so anxious, worried, and fearful. First of all, that first verse says that ALL things work together for good.  Not just the joyful things in our lives - ALL things. Even if we can't see how everything is tied together and working towards our good, God has a purpose for it all.  Secondly, God is on our side, and with that, how could we possible need anything else? And why should we worry what others think if we have his perfect love?  God loves us so much more than we could possibly fathom, and nothing in this world could keep us from that love.  He loved us enough to give up his only son, so obviously he will work all things out for us and our good.
Now comes the hard part - I need to remind myself over and over and over again that God is right there with me every second of the day, whether I feel his presence or not.  And I need to remember that he always has my ultimate good in mind, even when I can't see the perfect plans he has laid ahead of me.

How have you been encouraged recently?

  1. I can most definitely relate! I'm slowly learning to stop worrying so much and trust God, too! It's very hard! I love those verses, too. I'll be praying for you!

  2. You are an inspiration, Caitlin. Leanne wrote a post today about much the same thing. Learning to see things as they are and not worrying about how they may be is a peace and a gift that comes with time. As I have entered my 40's God has blessed me with that! : )

  3. yes! those three verses have been in my head all my life. My mom was the type to repeat bible verses and all things work together for good was one that was especially drilled into my head. Last week, someone had an argument with me about a hot button topic and I quoted Romans 8:28. yet, they refused to believe that ALL things work together for good. They saw it as that not everything can be good. But, no matter what the horrible outcome I truly believe that God really is in ALL things even the worse things in life. Somehow he is present and turning these bad things into his purpose. This is why you should never fear or have anxiety since he really is right there with you.
