7 Quick Takes Friday: Volume 58

7 quick takes sm1 7 Quick Takes Friday (vol. 212)

We found out our baby's gender this week!!  :)

A question for all you blogging mamas out there - what made you decide to share or not to share your children's names on your blog?  We are set on the name and shared with our family and friends, but I haven't decided yet if I'll share the name on my blog or if the baby will go by a fake name!

-2-
Where has Blue Bell ice cream been all my life?  My supervisor and another OT told me it's the best ice cream out there.  Seeing as that's one of my biggest cravings (pregnant or not), I had to give it a try!  Oh boy, they were not kidding!! It is GOOD. :)

-3-
We had a really great 4th of July!  We had Emily and Jim over for lunch, and it was so, so good seeing them again!!  I wish they lived by us!! I was pooped afterwards and didn't feel like going to watch fireworks, so we just relaxed, walked a little bit, and watched a movie instead!

-4-
I did make this yummy pie for our 4th of July dessert, but that's about as far as we got with the celebrations!!

-5-
Speaking of recipes, Some of you asked for that soft pretzel recipe!  Here is the one we recently made, but this one is my favorite!

-6-
This is just funny, but Thomas came back like this after playing soccer outside when it was wet and gross outside!

-7-
This will be a busy, but good weekend!  We'll get to see both of our families! :)  Hope yours is wonderful!!

  1. Is #1 a secret or did I miss the announcement somewhere? Totally respect if it's a secret :).

  2. Yay for a boy! We use real names but don't tell where we live or the kids school name or anything like that. I have to admit it's annoying to read blogs with fake names, I never feel really connected to the person, but I respect they want privacy. I think if you do choose a blog name, just make it a real name like Bob, and not Handsome :-)

  3. We used nicknames on the blog till after the birth when we sure what the name was going to be; then we use the real name. That pie looks amazing, bet it taste good too.

  4. Love your baby bump, Caitlin! And we use real names...I don't think with my old brain I would be able to remember all the nicknames! : )

  5. That pie looks amazing! I use real names. I didn't want to confuse the great grandmothers wh read the blog. On one blog I read that uses fake names, she posted a video of her son and his acapella group. They introduced themselves and I was so disappointed to learn his real name. It was like I was cheating somehow.

  6. That pie looks amazing, I love your dress, and I use my kids' real names. I prefer reading blogs that use names instead of "girl 1" or whatever. I try not to post too many specifics, but anyone who really wanted to be a creeper could probably find us anyway.

  7. We use real names and I also prefer reading blogs that use their children's real names, especially the Catholic blogs because they always pick such beautiful names! It seems more friendly and to me if someone is really worried about someone being creepy, the blog owners wouldn't share their real names either.

  9. What some critics may not realize is that our blog names were the nicknames that my deceased father had given to each of my children, (except the baby who was born after my father's death.). He called them lovingly my the sweet, old-fashioned nick names in real life and so we carry on his tradition :). For my kiddos, its a great way to honor his Irish humor :). Since the baby was born after his death, my mom carried out the tradition by coming up with a cute nick name. And that's our story. We happen to love our blog names :)

  12. I use nicknames. If someone really wanted to find out their names it wouldn't be too hard.... but it provides just enough separation to respect their autonomy from their mama's blog world. Perhaps if they were all still littlest I would care less.. but it won't be long before they are on their own. It seems somewhat more respectful to allow them some measure of anonymity as I spill my guts publicly. :) I realizw people view it as impersonal... but kiddos come before readers.

  13. Real names because I'm too tired to think of cute/creative nicknames. I understand sentimental or security reasons for using other names, I'm just not able to do it myself. I don't think one way is better than the other and I certainly don't think mom's who use pseudonyms or nicknames are better moms or more protective or anything else than those who use real names or vice versa. You just have to do what feels right in your heart and ignore what everyone else says. They made the best choice for them and their family, it may or may not be right for you.

  15. How did you just find Blue Bell?! I feel so bad for you! Actually, I feel bad for anyone who had to grow up eating mediocre ice cream. ;) Seriously, though. Delish. And as for the names... I use the real one mostly because I couldn't manage to keep track of nicknames, and the blog started out as a way to share info with family (so sharing his name was important!).

  16. I've been struggling with the same question you asked in #1...but because I don't use my last name anywhere, my husband and I agreed we think it's okay to use the baby's real name when the time comes. That's our plan anyway - real first names but never our last name. :)

  17. I'm curious to know all the reasons for not using the real name as well. And I hate to tell you this, but while Blue Bell is good, the best ice cream in the world is located at Lapp Family Dairy Farm in Lancaster, PA. The second best is Il Bacio in Danbury, CT. The first is run by an Amish family and the second is run by an Italian family (like, just stepped off the boat Italian). Is it mean to say things that make a pregnant lady want to road-trip to the northeast? :-)
