Easter Weekend

It's so convenient having both of our families live close together so that we have the chance to see everyone over the holidays!  We drove back home on Friday to see Thomas's parents, and we spent our time with them going to the Good Friday service, dying eggs, and celebrating my mother-in-laws' birthday!

Thomas's dad is Polish, and they have a tradition of taking a basket of food to the church on Saturday to have it blessed by the priest.  This was my first time going to the service at church, and it was really neat to hear about what all the different food in the basket represented.
When we got back from church, we then ate the blessed food for lunch!

We headed to my parents' house Saturday afternoon, and my cousins and my aunt and uncle came over for dinner Saturday night.

We had another little birthday celebration (with a makeshift birthday candle) because mine, my mom's, my sister's, and my cousin's birthdays are all in April!  We have SO many April birthdays in my family!
We celebrated Easter morning by going to mass and having a big brunch! (More food - surprise, surprise).

It was a wonderful weekend full of celebrations, time with family, love for the Lord, and more food than anyone could possibly need!

I am praying for the joy of Easter to continue throughout this week.  I tried to go to mass this morning, not realizing that the daily mass schedule changed.  The church was so peaceful and quiet, so I went to sit and pray, and I just felt so content and in love with God.  The candlelight, beautiful pink and white Easter flowers, and the sound of the baptismal fountain flowing surrounded me, and my eyes and heart were fixated on the crucifix.  I am so in awe of the goodness and mercy of the Lord, his tremendous sacrifice, and all of the blessings he has bestowed on me and Thomas.  My heart is just full of so much joy that I feel like I can't even contain it right now!

I picked up a bulletin on the way out, and I love these words in the letter from the Bishop:

"At Easter, we celebrate with renewed and profound joy the new life that is ours in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.  He has proven victorious over darkness, sin, suffering, and even death itself.  His victory is our victory!  We are recipients of his divine mercy and the forgiveness of our sins.  In Him, we find the grace and strength we need to carry our crosses and endure our sufferings.  In mourning the death of our loved ones, we discover every reason to rejoice in knowing that death has no power over us."

I hope you all had a blessed Easter and that you have a very blessed week!
