I'm sure everyone has seen this embrace by now, but in case you haven't, check out the Pope's love for this sweet boy with cerebral palsy!

I've been doing just a little baking this week!  There's nothing like my great grandma's good old family recipe for peanut butter cookies!

There's a super, super sweet older couple at our church that I frequently see at morning mass.  They have stopped me a few times to talk, and they invited us over for dinner last night to meet another young couple from the parish!  They were so kind to host us, and we really enjoyed eating and playing cards with them and the other couple!  We just keep meeting more and more wonderful people at our church, and I am loving it! It's going to make it really hard if we decide to move away from here after I graduate.

Thomas took me on a surprise date this week to get cupcakes from a new bakery.  He is such a sweetheart! :)

I know this is probably ridiculously vain to put up on my blog, but whatever - ladies, I need some advice!  I am thinking about cutting my hair really short - a long bob or something...like my sister's hair or a little shorter.
Any opinions? I have had long hair for pretty much the past 10 years or so, so this is a big decision haha!  I thought it might look more professional for starting fieldwork in May, but I just can't make up my mind.  I am pretty much the most indecisive person in the world, so I will probably change my mind approximately 3.5 thousand times before I get it cut.  And I know, it's hair, so whatever, it will grow back if I don't like it.

Happy 50th birthday to my mom! My dad planned this amazing surprise and took her to New York City for two days to see Phantom of the Opera and Mama Mia!  How awesome is that!?  I was absolutely shocked that he planned all that, and even more shocked that he was able to keep it a surprise!  He has been like a little kid with excitement over it!

Have a great weekend!  We have a busy, but fun one ahead!

Love,
Caitlin

  1. Happy birthday to your mom! And how sweet of Thomas to take you out for cupcakes! That sounds absolutely delicious! I am a fan of cutting my hair a little bit at a time, like only a few inches and if I like it then the next time I'll get cut off. Then again I don't like drastic changes so there's that :)
I loveee those cookies. So glad you shared the recipe!

  3. You have really good hair, so I honestly think that cut would look great on you. And if you aren't in love, just grow it back out ;).

    Your church sounds AMAZING!

  5. Happy Birthday to your mom, Caitlin! And as for the hair...Madison was just telling me last night how she wished she had never cut her hair! It is taking forever to grow it back! You are stunning anyway you wear it, but I suggest not cutting it right away. If you are looking for a more professional look for work...you can always pull it up in a number of different styles. Just a thoughts. Happy Weekend!

  6. Hey Caitilin! Regarding the hair, I say GO FOR IT. My hair has also always been long and I have not had a real haircut over the past 2 years b/c I've been growing it out for the wedding, but I am making an appointment at the hairdresser for the 1 day we have in between the wedding and the day we leave on our honeymoon and getting it cut significantly!!! :-) Can't wait haha so go for it. I love changes...and don't worry, it'll grow back after a while. Have a wonderful weekend Caitlin!!! :-)

  7. Go for the cut! I recently chopped off a ton of my hair and it is oh so liberating. Happy weekend!

  8. Your parents sound adorable; that's so sweet of your dad! Not that I've seen it in real life or anything, but by the looks of it you do have awesome hair, so I think you could definitely pull off a shorter style if you went for it! Maybe you can ease into it, like just cut off a little bit, before you do the full-on bob? And for what it's worth, I think that long hair can totally be professional, if that's your only concern. Have a goo weekend!!

  10. Happy birthday to your mom. I love hearing stories of sweet surprises from couples that have been married a long while...and a short while! It's so important! I am getting my hair cut this afternoon, so we will see what ends up happening. I guess I should head over to Pinterest to get some ideas! Good luck - it's not trivial at all!

  11. Thank you for sharing the heartwarming video! I am so happy I found your blog - it's becoming a daily visit of mine :)

As for the hair issue... I joined the professional world about four years ago. I literally went through the same thing and chopped off my hair to shoulder length for a more "professional" look. I thought it would make me look older and people would take me more seriously. In the end, I realized it's my work performance and effort, not my hair, which determined how coworkers viewed my professionalism. Needless to say, my hair is long again :) I would go for a few inches and get more taken off in a week or so if you still have the itch. I hope this helps!

  12. I love your hair... I actually have some hair jealousy. But, I say, cut if you want! Maybe cut it to the longer bob first, if you are good with that, go shorter! You are right, it WILL grow back. :)

Happy birthday to you mom! And awesome job to your dad for all that secret planning! :)

  13. Yes my heart melted when I saw the Holy Father embrace that boy! And about the hair I think you would look great with a short cut :)

  14. What a sweet video - I hadn't seen it yet! :) Yum to the cookies and cupcakes! :) Happy birthday to your Mom! And you have gorgeous hair... but seriously, go for it!!! I think you'd look great! I finally took the plunge last summer and I've gotten shorter each time since! You can always donate it if it's long enough. (I did Pantene beautiful lengths, used my hubby's return address label and they sent him a thank-you for his ponytail donation, haha).

Yup, pinterest is a great source for haircut inspiration. :)

    Have a great weekend, Caitlin!

  15. Thank you for posting that beautiful video. I had not seen or heard of it yet. You have the most beautiful hair! I always want to cut mine, but then I always wished I hadn't when I do, but it's totally up to you.

Your husband is so sweet to take you on a cupcake date! I'll have to put that idea in my husband's head soon. God Bless!

  16. I love your long hair - so pretty! Every now and then you just need a change though. Just remember, it will grow back if you don't like it. Happy weekend!

  17. I LOVE your hair as it is...but I understand how you feel. What if you just took a smidge off and then had long layers cut in, or layers just on the bottom? No matter what, you are so pretty, the hair will turn out great!
