7 Quick Takes Friday: Volume 36

-1-
Seven Quick Takes is being hosted by Hallie this week because Jen has been in the hospital this week with two pulmonary embolisms!  Please pray for her!!

Thomas and I stayed in to celebrated New Years Eve because we had no plans had colds and were exhausted after traveling.  I made us lots of snacks to eat for dinner and we played many rounds of Yahtzee and a game of Scrabble!  We were so tired that we ended up going to bed by nine.  But hey, England is five hours ahead, so really we stayed up past midnight England time! :)

And here's the year of 2012 in Review

-3-
Thomas had off from work for New Year's Day, so we were able to spend the whole day together....starting with waking up at 4:30 in the morning since we went to bed so early!  It was so, so good to just be together all day.  We went running, read together, went to mass, fed the ducks, played board games, and watched movies - a really sweet, laid-back day.  Days like that make me so very thankful for all the blessings in my life, especially Thomas.

-4-
My family always celebrates New Year's Day with a nice meal, so Thomas and I made some cheese fondue for dinner and chocolate fondue for dessert!

Accompanied by some $5 Food Lion champagne.  Yep, we do it big in this household. :)  The funny thing is that we tried to get some when we went grocery shopping at Walmart after church on Sunday morning only to find out that you're not allowed to purchase alcohol before noon on Sundays. I guess that goes to show how infrequently we purchase or drink alcohol!

-5-
I picked a patron saint for the year from the Patron Saint Generator, and I got Saint Vladimir, the patron saint of converts, kings, murderers, and parents of large families.  An interesting year could be ahead! :)

I've started writing about our Christmas trip with my in-laws to England!  You can check out our time in Lechlade and the first and second days in London.  I have two more posts to write!  It has taken a lot of time to write about everything, but I know I'll appreciate it months from now when I can look back on memories of our trip!

-7-
After injuring my knee, I have finally started running again this week! It has been frustrating, and also very humbling, to struggle through short runs.   I'm just thankful for my health and the fact that I can start exercising again! I have really, really missed it!

Have a wonderful weekend! :)

Love,
Caitlin

  1. I can't imagine ever missing exercise :> I am loving your England posts. And FYI - you can't buy alcohol before noon because of the blue laws. (So called because they were orginally written on blue paper in the 1700's. - sorry, History teacher here).

  4. Your New Years' stuff looks so pretty! I know what you mean about jet lag... I'm experiencing that as well right now :P
We often get sick after plane flights as well, but thankfully not this time! Good luck with starting running up again.

  6. Welcome home! You are so inspiring in the ways you celebrate! We got home from a week of Christmas travel on New Year's Eve, so we were also exhausted and opted for an early bedtime, but it looks like with your board games and snacks, you went way above and beyond my efforts =) How exciting that you can run again! Have a good weekend, Caitlin!!

  8. Sounds like a great end of 2012 / start of 2013! Yay for being able to run again - I know it's very frustrating to recover from an injury. You'll be back to marathons in no time though! :)
