7 Quick Takes (Volume 31)

God is so good! Thomas and I had an absolutely wonderful experience at the Worldwide Marriage Encounter retreat last weekend.  We highly recommend it for all couples, Catholic our not.  Here's the website for the retreat, and here's my my recap of our weekend. It's offered all over, so if there is one near you, you should definitely check it out!

Following such a wonderful weekend, I had a rough week!  When Thomas and I went running on Monday, I fell on my  knee on the concrete.  Pretty hard. It was incredibly swollen and painful.  I have an appointment today to find out the results from the MRI, so if you see this in the next four hours or so, please say a prayer for me!  The pain has decreased a lot, so I am really hopeful that I'll receive good news.

This has been particularly upsetting for me because our marathon is this weekend.  It is so frustrating to have something like this happen 5 days before, especially when we have been training since July and paid our entrance fee.  Thomas will be running by himself now, and I'll be there to cheer him on.  I am really disappointed about the race, but it was good timing to read the chapter in Unglued this week where she talked about shifting your focus to the Lord, and spending time thanking him and praising him for all the good in your life.  I am trying to focus on all the other undeserved blessings in my life, as well as the fact that there are a million other health issues that could be a lot worse.   I am also so, so grateful for my husband, who has been completely self-giving, and has helped me with everything while I just sit around the apartment.

Thomas and I watched Arthur Christmas this week.  Yes, I do realize it's not even Thanksgiving yet, but oh, it was so, so good.  Just hilarious! I love Christmas movies, and it was fun to watch a new one.

-5-
Thomas drove me to something for school one night, and I convinced him that we should get some McDonald's ice cream on the way home.  The drivethrough was closed, so I waited in the car while Thomas went in to get the ice cream.  He came out with two absolutely massive, overflowing cones.  We were dying with uncontrollable belly laughter and could not stop! It made it even worse once we started getting it all over our faces from laughing!

I know I said a while ago that I was motivated to read through the Old Testament in chronological order, but I stopped doing it after about two weeks.  I am really, really going to try to do it now though. Does anyone have suggestions for accountability and staying on track?  It's so much easier for me to just pick up the Bible and jump straight to something in the New Testament.

Thomas and I had made chocolate covered pomegranates last night! We developed a thing for pomegranates a few years ago when I found a website where you could send someone a pomegranate for free.  I sent them to him and my family.  Ever since then, we've gotten at least one pomegranate every fall.  They're so incredibly good it's hard to believe they are healthy!

And covered in chocolate...even better! ;)

Have a wonderful weekend! :)

Love,
Caitlin

  5. I'll be praying for your knee! That's just awful. I would hold yourself accountable by putting it in a planner of sorts. Like "read Genesis 1-5 today. Something like that. That's what I do when I need to hold myself accountable for something!

  7. So sorry to hear about your knee! I've come home from retreats before and then noticed so many instances of spiritual attack--that's not to say that you actually falling and hurting yourself is an attack, but the frustration or despair that can come from it seems like it could be. I'll say some prayers for you, and I hope you still have fun cheering Thomas on!

Ohhh my goodness, your pomegranates look amazing! I eat them in a bowl with dark chocolate chips, but chocolate covered looks like even more of a treat!

  11. That knee is no fun. About the Bible - I did the Bible in 90 Days challenge two summers ago. You could print out their bookmark and keep track of it there. (It is just 12 pages a day).

  12. Oh man, those are some insanely huge ice cream cones! As far as the Old Testament, my husband and I decided to read through it together sometime ago because he'd never read every book in the Old Testment...so far we'd made it from Genesis to 2 Chronicles, so we have quite a ways to go yet, but for us, reading it together rather than on our own has helped to keep the motivation going, I think.

  13. That stinks so much about your marathon! Of course the knee injury is bad too, but I really hurt my ankle on my first 18-mile training run for a marathon and I felt a lot worse about missing the race than I did dealing with the physical pain.

I hope that your knee heels well and that you are able to somehow have a great marathon experience, even though it won't be the sort that you wanted.
