Labor Day Weekend

This has been an absolutely amazing long weekend, and I'm sad that it has to come to an end!  The highlight of the weekend was getting to meet Stacy, Emily, Kayla, and Kendra!  Stacy and her husband were so sweet and had all of us and our husbands/fiance/baby over to their new home for dinner.

L to R: Kayla's husband, Stacy's husband, Kendra's husband & baby, my husband, Emily's fiance

The star of the night was Kendra's sweet little baby, Henry.  He kept us all entertained with his giggles. He is just so stinking cute!

Kendra, you're lucky I didn't take him home with me!  Such a sweetie! :)

We had such a wonderful night, and I was so excited to finally meet some Catholic bloggers after reading their blogs for months and feeling like I knew them!  They are a wonderful group of women, and I am grateful for new friendships!

On Sunday morning, Thomas and I went to mass, and then we took a drive to a state park to have a picnic and go hiking.  We stopped in the information center to get a map and check out everything that was inside.

He cracks me up! :)

We ate a picnic lunch outside, and it was thundering like crazy!  The sky was so dark, and the wind was howling.  We were a little concerned that hiking might be a bad idea in that weather.

Nevertheless, since we drove almost an hour away we were determined to stay and hike!  I'm so glad we did because we had so much fun exploring, and the rain held off until right when we got back to the car.

And when I said that we went hiking, I meant that we went for a leisurely stroll, stopping to take lots of pictures! ;)  We even climbed a few trees because we're both pretty much still 10 years old.

Part of the park went along the river, and it was beautiful!

I just love exploring with this boy! It's probably one of my favorite things to do together!

We also came across a kind of spooky cemetery.  There was a sign there that said they did not know who was buried there and why, but it was suspected that people in the 1800s traveled across the river to bury family members who died from yellow fever.

Annnnd I couldn't leave the park without a souvenir...a big, fat bug bite...smack dab in the middle of my forehead haha!  It's kind of hilarious.

Today has been wonderful so far.  It poured this morning, so we didn't do our long run and instead just lounged around, which was more than okay with me!  Once it got sunny out, we went to play some soccer and then headed to the pool to cool off and swim for a little bit.  We also baked a delicious treat together - Caramel swirled Pretzel M&M Blondies.  These are incredibly good and probably will send both of us into a sugar coma.  Here's the recipe!  I definitely recommend them.

We're going to make some dinner soon and take it easy tonight!  I'm just so thankful for the extra day with Thomas.  I think we both said we love being married about a million times this weekend.  It's so much fun to be able to do everything together in our free time! Love it!

Love,
Caitlin

  1. It looks like you guys had a great time. That bug bite looks FIERCE! So sorry. Use plenty of Benadryl cream. I can't wait...we are going to a local State Park in October during my vacation week. Hoping the heat subsides by mid-October. :)

    1. You're sweet! Henry is one healthy, growing baby! :) She has him in clothes months bigger than his age and they still can't get his little pajamas to button around his legs!
