7 Quick Takes Friday (Volume 24)

-1-
I had an awesome opportunity this week to go to a presentation by a woman in her 20s who was paralyzed after an accident.  It was unbelievable to see this young girl, one whose hopes and dreams of the future were shattered in an instant, face life with such a positive attitude.  It was absolutely inspiring, and a true testament to God's grace.  She encouraged us all to focus on our blessings and to not waste our time and energy stressing and complaining about the little things in life.  We need to be thankful for every good thing every day and not take things for granted.

I made some pumpkin apple streusel muffins this week! I know it's not quite fall yet, but I am so ready for pumpkin everything! I'll post the recipe soon!

I just love this quote from Saint Augustine: "If you would attain to what you are not yet, you must always be displeased by what you are.  For where you are pleased with yourself, there you have remained.  Keep adding.  Keep walking.  Keep advancing."  I am praying for continual growth and that I never stop seeking the truth.

Soooomebody disrupted a night of my sleep this week.  I woke up in the middle of the night to Thomas shouting "They're everywhere!!! They're everywhere!!"  It scared the HECK out of me! He told me to stay really still and to turn the light on (I am next to the nightstand with the lamp).  I am absolutely freaking out at this point wondering what in the world is going on, but I turned on the light and tried to stay calm.  He said he had a dream that there were giant bugs all over our room, and then he just calmly asked what time it was and fell right back asleep.  In the meantime, I'm laying there with my adrenaline absolutely pumping through my body, not able to fall back asleep because I'm worried about big bugs being everywhere.  It's okay though, we both can't stop laughing about it now!  It was hilarious! Well, at the time it wasn't because I was scared, but now it's pretty funny. :)

We started our Bible study at school this week, and I am so excited about it!  It's a wonderful group of girls, and I am hopeful that we will learn a lot about ourselves and each other, and that we'll be able to make any necessary changes in our lives.

This week I wrote about a post about love based off our couple's Bible study and a book review on The Bible Compass.

I am so excited for this weekend! We will pretty much be in the car for almost all of it, but we're driving out of state to go see my little brother's football game!! And we'll be celebrating his and my grandma's birthdays, so there is much to look forward to!  I miss my family so, so much and can't wait to see everyone!

And happy, happy birthday to Emily! :)

Love,
Caitlin

    1. You're so sweet to think about that! YES! I am so grateful everything worked out. I have about an hour commute for both of my 3 month ones next year, but I am glad I can live at home! :)

  2. Those muffins look sooo good, Caitlin. Will be anxiously waiting for the recipe! So funny (now) about the dream...We had a mark on the wall in our room years ago from my husband waking up from a dream that he was covered in snakes...he jumped out of bed and ran into the rocking chair! He didn't believe me until I showed him the mark! We still laugh about it today!

Have a wonderful weekend. Enjoy your visits with your family...the best. : )

    1. I agree! And how much easier it is for them to fall asleep the second they hit the pillow!

  4. Personally, I don't think it's too early for pumpkin at all! Those look delish!

So glad there were no actual bugs in your room...one of the funnier aspects of being married, I've found out, is those half-asleep ramblings you get to hear!

Safe travels; we're on the road this weekend, too!

  7. Haha i laughed pretty hard when I read #4. Don't you just love when those kind of things happen.. Thanks for sharing a little bit of the story of the woman in her 20's with us. We had a man who had been burned over 80% of his body (inside and out) come and talk to us 2 days ago. He is now married, with kids and grandkids. After 2 years of ICU/therapy he has full function of just about everything. A girl asked him what got him through the hard days in the hospital and he responded that a constant conversation with God was what got him through. It was so inspiring to see and hear, especially in such a secular setting. I was amazed to say the least!

    1. Wow! That is incredible. Sometimes I think that we are going to learn more from our future clients than they ever will from us!

  11. I was very reluctant to say good-bye to summer, but I am ready for fall! I put out my fall decorations last night and I've got a few pumpkin recipes planned for the next few weeks!!

That dreams sounds crazy! That sounds like something that would happen in our home and my husband would be back to sleep in three seconds flat while I stayed awake the rest of the night scared! :)

I love that St. Augustine quote. I hope I never am satisfied with myself, either.

  12. Okay, tell Thomas I can totally empathize with the sleep talking. I have done it my whole life and feel his pain. Beware though! After 17 years of marriage, I now have David sleep talking (actually screaming!) when he goes to bed stressed over something. He blames it on me :) LOL David, on the other hand, totally understands your perspective. He has dealt with my craziness all these years.
