We had beautiful views of the marsh area and mansions along the way.
We had soooo much fun at the beach! There were only about 30 people there, so we just walked down the beach a little bit to set up our spot and felt like we were the only ones there!
It was really, really cool that there weren't any houses or hotels along the beach...just miles of sand and water! We had a great time swimming,
walking along the beach,
and discovering hidden areas of the island.
The weather was perfect, and it was so wonderful to spend the day relaxing and exploring.
When we got back, we ate in the room, showered, and headed out for an evening walk around the waterfront and town.
It really was a picture perfect night. There's really nothing better than walking around with your best friend hand in hand.
Thomas had been suggesting the whole trip that we go get dessert from Outback, so I was more than happy to give in! We shared the Chocolate Thunder from Down Under. That is definitely one of my favorite desserts of all times, and it brought back memories of the summer I worked there. When Thomas would visit me there after my shifts, we'd share cheese fries and this dessert since I got such a good discount.
The next day we planned to take a daytime boat tour since our sunset sail was cancelled. However, it was raining and we went out to the marina, but nobody showed up! Thomas called the company and they accidentally forgot to call us to let us know it was cancelled. So we sat out on a patio near the marina for about an hour just spending time talking with one another.
New Bern is the birth place of Pepsi, so we headed over to the Pepsi store to see where Pepsi was created. I don't drink soda, and Thomas doesn't really drink it often, so we didn't get the classic Pepsi bottles to drink. We did enjoy looking around though!
We were surprised the store was so tiny and that they didn't have much about the history of Pepsi. Thomas had previously seen the birth place of Coca Cola with his family, and he said it was huge and that they could have spent all day looking at everything.
It was really neat to see some of the Pepsi cans and bottles they had from other countries.
We also went to look around an old bank that was turned into an art gallery.
Some things were cooler than others, and some things made us wonder about the definition of art.
We finally got to go to a place where we had been wanting to go all week...a dessert shop! No surprise there.
We ordered fudge and sat and ate most of it in the car. Thomas got the maple flavor and I got chocolate vanilla. They were both amazing! Fudge isn't something I eat too often, but I sure do love it!
Since it was still raining, we spent some time walking around the New Bern mall, went to lunch at an Indian buffet, and went out to see the movie Ice Age (it's hilarious). It was another good day, and even though we didn't get to do everything we planned we still had a lot of fun.
We were sad to go home after such an amazing trip! It was so good to get away from school and work and spend all day every day with each other. I miss that boy just when he's at work for the day, so it was really good to connect and enjoy every moment together. We were so blessed to have another wonderful adventure together, and New Bern was such a cute place to go to have that quality time with one another. I love the married life and I love my husband! :)
Finally, I leave you with this picture we took at the NC History Center on our first day there. I forgot all about it because it was emailed to Thomas. They had a digital photo booth where you could pick your scene! :)
