DIY Door Wreath

I posted two pictures a while ago of front door wreaths that I really liked.  Thanks to Whitney's advice, I combined the two ideas to make this wreath for our front door.

Thomas and I headed off to Michael's last week with coupons in hand to look for supplies.  I always bring him along because we can get more things with coupons! Plus he's pretty crafty and has great ideas.  We used a 50% off coupon on the wreath and wooden letter, a 40% off coupon on the silver wiring, and the three bouquets of flowers were on clearance.  So the total cost ended up being about $17, which we thought was pretty darn good considering how expensive some wreaths are that we've seen.  I would have picked hydrangeas, but they weren't on sale and we didn't feel like going back later with more coupons.  I ended up liking the flowers we picked once it all came together though!

First I had to cut the stems with pliers so that I'd have individual flowers.

Then I just started attaching the flowers to the wreath.  The stem has wiring in it, so I stuck it all the way through the wreath, then bent it and tucked it back into the wreath.

You can arrange the flowers however you would like.  It might help you to play around with the placement before you start attaching them.  However, it's easy to remove them and change them around if you don't like the way it looks.

This is what the back looked like.  I ended up using the wiring to try to better secure some of the flower stems to the wreath. I just twisted it around a piece of the wreath and the stem together and then tucked the ends of the wire into the wreath.

Then I used a TON of hot glue to glue the Z onto the front of the wreath.

I used an adhesive hook to hang it on our apartment door.  It was a pretty easy project, and it only took me about an hour and a half to make it.  I just really like seeing something pretty on the door when I get home! :) You could make it with any kinds of artificial flowers if they have wiring in them, and you could paint your letter any color you'd like.

I am linking this post up to Jenna's Party Time.  Check out her post for more ideas!

Love,
Caitlin
